Anchoring

Connecting a positive internal state (e.g., confidence, calm) to a specific external or internal trigger in daily life.

What is Anchoring?

Anchoring is a core technique in hypnotherapy and NLP. It pairs a desired emotional resource (such as calm, focus, or confidence) with a specific trigger. Whenever that trigger occurs in daily life, the anchored emotional state automatically activates in the unconscious mind.

Types of Anchors

Anchors can be kinesthetic (such as a touch), auditory, or visual. A familiar everyday example of an unconscious anchor is a song that instantly evokes the feeling of a specific past summer.

Personal Perspective by Jan Mion (Hypnotherapist): "I am very fond of anchoring positive resource states to doorways. For example: 'Next time you walk through a door at home, your unconscious mind can remind you of this inner calm...'

This doorway anchor is great because doors are symbolic transitions. Furthermore, you walk through doorways in both directions and there are multiple doors in your home, allowing the resource state to reinforce itself continuously throughout your day."

In-Session Installation

During hypnosis, we pair your chosen trigger at the peak of a positive experience. In daily life, your nervous system then activates the desired resource automatically.
