A Closer Look

"My doctor says everything's fine physically — but I don't feel fine." I hear that sentence often, and it points exactly to the gap where medical hypnosis works: where a treatment is finished, but the body hasn't quite caught up.

What medical hypnosis isn't

Medical hypnosis isn't an alternative to conventional medicine, and it isn't a way around it. If you come to me with symptoms that haven't been assessed, I'll send you to a doctor first — not out of caution, but because that order makes the most sense. Assessment first, then the work on what's left afterward: how you react to your own body.

The part medicine rarely addresses

A diagnosis describes what's there. It rarely describes how your nervous system reacts to it — whether you stay tense, whether sleep suffers, whether worrying about the complaint makes the complaint itself worse. That's exactly where trance comes in: at the reaction, not the diagnosis.

That's also why medical hypnosis can help with such different issues: pain, allergies, autoimmune conditions, sleep, or psychosomatic complaints. Not because hypnosis "cures" all of that, but because the same nervous system is involved in all of it.

Why "just relax" isn't enough

If your body has been stuck in a kind of ongoing tension for months or years, a conscious decision rarely changes that on its own. The instruction "relax" comes from the conscious mind — but the tension itself sits in the unconscious. That's why a wellness weekend often only helps briefly, while the old pattern is back by Monday.

In trance, you can address that part directly. Not with willpower, but in the language it actually runs on: images, feelings, repetition.

What that means for your body's own healing

In the vast majority of cases, the body heals itself — a wound closes, a cold passes, without you consciously doing anything for it. That capacity works best when your nervous system isn't permanently stuck in alarm mode. Medical hypnosis aims exactly there: it creates the state in which your body can do what it's already best at.

That's also why I run activating your self-healing capacity as its own separate topic — for anyone who wants to work specifically on that capacity, independent of any particular diagnosis.

How I work alongside your treatment

I always ask at the start what's already been medically assessed and what treatment is currently underway. That's not a formality — I deliberately shape my work so it supports your treatment instead of getting in its way. Where it's useful, and with your consent, I'll also check in with the professionals treating you.

In short

Medical hypnosis doesn't replace what your doctor does for you. It takes on the part medicine alone rarely reaches: how your nervous system reacts to what's happening right now. For many people, that's exactly the missing piece between "medically done everything it can" and actually feeling better again.

The change

What it's like when the body isn't stuck in alarm mode

Not a miracle cure, and not a substitute for your treatment. But often the difference between a body that keeps fighting itself and one that starts working with you again.

  • A nervous system that actually powers down again after the tension
  • Less energy spent fighting your own body
  • Sleep that actually restores you, instead of just getting you through the night
  • A calmer reaction to complaints that stay
  • The sense that you can contribute something again yourself

Does It Really Help?

Feedback from practice.

Danke dir!

When my friend in Australia recommended online hypnotherapy sessions with Jan I was reluctant to try it. But I am very happy that I did take the leap, because it has helped me a lot. He is not as Swiss as you would expect a Swiss hypnotherapist to be, instead there is a lot of humour in his sessions that I did not expect. I am also glad he always graciously dealt with our timezone issues.

After many tires to find the best hypnotherapist for me I have finally found Jan Mion. He says his goal is that his clients are comfortably confused and I must say he does a great job of it. After every hypnosis appointment I felt that my subconsicous mind is fully working and implementing his suggestions. Visiting him in Zurich really is something I look forward to every time I am in town.

Good to know

Common questions about medical hypnosis

Does medical hypnosis replace medical treatment?

No. Medical hypnosis complements medical treatment — it never replaces it. Before we work together, anything physical should already be medically assessed.

What issues is medical hypnosis used for?

Often anything where stress and tension play a noticeable role — for example pain, sleep problems, psychosomatic complaints, or allergies. What's actually possible for you, we discuss in the first conversation.

Can hypnosis cure illness?

That's not a promise I make. Medical hypnosis can calm your nervous system and strengthen your own regulation, which often helps recovery. Treating the illness itself stays with your doctor.

Is medical hypnosis the same as stage hypnosis?

No. Stage hypnosis is entertainment. Medical hypnosis is serious therapeutic work in which you're awake and steering the whole time.

How many sessions does medical hypnosis take?

That depends heavily on the issue. Some people notice a change after the first session, others need several. We discuss that honestly once we know what we're working on.

What does medical hypnosis cost?

200 CHF per session, about 60 minutes. No package, no minimum number — you decide fresh after each session.
Specific Areas

Medical Hypnosis in Detail

The principle is the same everywhere — calming the nervous system, instead of fighting the diagnosis. Find the page for your issue here.

Hypnosis for Allergies

Your body reacts to harmless pollen as if poisoning were imminent. Your eyes burn, your nose runs — because your nervous system made the wrong call.

Hypnotherapy for Overactive Bladder

Constantly checking for the nearest bathroom takes away all spontaneity. When medical tests are clear, the issue often stems from a learned false alarm in the nervous system.

Hypnotherapy for Chronic Pain

You've had everything checked, and the pain stayed anyway. In trance, we don't work on the tissue — we work on what your system has made of it.

Hypnotherapy and Self-Healing

Your body does its job either way — right now just under constant strain. That strain can be released, though not through good intentions alone.

Hypnotherapy for Teeth Grinding

Teeth grinding (bruxism) is often a sign of tension that has nowhere else to go — hypnosis works right where that tension actually forms.
