Symptoms after hypnosis

A person resting after a hypnosis session

Hypnosis is a powerful tool that has been used for centuries to give people access to different states of consciousness and unconscious processes, in order to help them change what they want. Hypnosis as a therapy can be used for many purposes, from the treatment of mental illnesses to psychosomatic complaints.

Even though the benefits of hypnosis are well known, some people may experience symptoms after hypnosis that can be both physical and psychological in nature. In this article, we will look at the possible symptoms that can occur after hypnosis and how they can be treated.

Fundamentally, different people react differently to hypnosis, so we can say that what we call symptoms after hypnosis is a sign that something is happening inside. So they shouldn’t be a cause for concern and, on the contrary, can show how much is going on and being positively changed. If we want to build a new house, we often have to tear down the old one first. That naturally kicks up some dust. But the new one will certainly be more beautiful.

If you want to get rid of the aftereffects of hypnosis, I can recommend an online hypnosis from home.

Communication of the unconscious

Often, physical symptoms also reflect the approach recommended by the unconscious: For example, if someone is tired after hypnosis, then it’s a good idea to take a nap or even sleep completely.

Strange and confusing dreams can also occur. This is completely normal, because dreams are a part of the language of the unconscious. If a dream keeps recurring after hypnosis, you should discuss this with your hypnotherapist, because this is often a sign that the unconscious is still stuck on a topic.

The resulting contact between the conscious and unconscious also often manifests itself through an increased awareness of the body or of feelings.

After hypnosis, some people may experience physical or psychological symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, confusion, or even nausea. These symptoms usually appear immediately after the session, but can also last for several days afterwards. Furthermore, some people report feeling disoriented or “high” after hypnosis. This is known as a post-hypnotic effect and usually subsides soon after.

Even though there can be many symptoms after hypnosis, in my experience these are only negative in a maximum of 10% of my clients. Most report a feeling of lightness or optimism. Others perceive colors more intensely or feel a kind of inner glow.

It is also important to know: Hypnosis can work with or without noticeable changes.

List of (rare) symptoms after hypnosis

Fundamentally, hypnosis does not cause an initial worsening of symptoms. Most of my clients have no negative sensations after hypnosis. The following list only serves to show what is possible and to reassure anyone who is suffering from them.

  • Fatigue or drowsiness
  • Confusion
  • Impressive dreams
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Nausea or upset stomach
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Feeling emotionally vulnerable or sensitive
  • Difficulty concentrating or focusing
  • Feverish or sick
  • Disorientation or confusion
  • Queasy feeling or restlessness
  • Increased thirst or dry mouth
  • Muscle weakness or tension

These symptoms usually go away very quickly, especially if you take care of yourself after hypnosis. With more intense topics, they can last up to 5 days. Mostly, however, they go away on the same or the next day.

Exhaustion after hypnosis

After leaving a trance state, it is not unusual for you to feel exhausted. This can be due to the fact that a lot of emotional processing happens during the hypnotic trance - something that can be very draining for the mind and body. This exhaustion can appear suddenly or build up gradually over time, leading to feelings of fatigue, drowsiness, and even confusion.

It is important to know that this feeling of exhaustion is usually no cause for concern and passes quickly with a little rest. Taking some time for yourself afterwards can help your body readjust to its normal balance more easily. A nap or a walk are both good ways to help the body recover from the session.

Fundamentally, fatigue is a good sign, because it points to great effort and thus to major internal changes.

Sad after hypnosis

What happens again and again is that people feel sad or depressed after hypnosis. This is not a sign that the hypnosis made you sad, but that the hypnosis connected you with your feelings. Because feelings classified as negative are often repressed. But upon contact with the subconscious in the hypnotic trance, the connection is re-established.

Usually, this sadness passes after a certain time, once the emotions have been processed and positive changes could be made.

Confused after the hypnotic trance

Many of my clients experience a certain confusion after the trance. Especially if it was the first time you’ve done something like this and experienced what else is inside you, that can be confusing for the conscious mind.

As long as it is “deliciously confused,” as I usually say, everything is fine. Hypnosis gives the unconscious more space, and by definition, this cannot be consciously understood.

Make sure that you are safe in traffic after hypnosis and do not operate heavy machinery.

Shaking after hypnosis

When you come back from a hypnosis session, you frequently feel a little different than at the beginning of the session. Shaking or trembling can occur after the session, which is completely normal. That is the way your body adapts to the new state of connection between the conscious and unconscious.

The shaking after hypnosis is caused by the changes in the body that occur during hypnosis, such as decreased muscle tone and decreased blood flow. When you wake up from the trance, your body needs time to readjust to its normal level of functioning. This can lead to shaking as the muscles regain their strength and circulation returns to a normal level.

Shaking after hypnosis is usually a temporary reaction that subsides quickly and has no lasting consequences. It can be helpful to take a few deep breaths and relax your muscles when you come out of hypnosis, because this makes it easier for your body to adapt. Furthermore, you should drink plenty of water afterwards, because dehydration can make the shaking worse.

If you notice that the shaking lasts longer than a few minutes after the hypnosis session, you should talk to your therapist about it. They can give you advice on how best to deal with your symptoms or recommend further treatments if necessary.

Diarrhea after hypnosis

Diarrhea after hypnosis is a rare but possible symptom that can occur in some people after a hypnosis session. Hypnosis is a therapeutic method that serves to reach the subconscious and bring about positive changes in behavior or perception. Although diarrhea is not normally considered a typical reaction to hypnosis, it can occur in sensitive individuals or during intense emotional experiences during the session. The exact cause of diarrhea after hypnosis is not clearly understood, but it is believed that the body is reacting to the emotional stimulation or the release of stress hormones. It is important that patients discuss their symptoms with their hypnotherapist to receive appropriate care and support.

Sick after hypnosis

Hypnosis can stimulate many unconscious changes. Even if it becomes clear what should change, this is usually not done right after the hypnosis session. It takes time and rest to implement these changes. We usually give ourselves the most rest when we are on bed rest due to being sick, and so it can be that you get sick because of the exhaustion after hypnosis and because the unconscious hits the brakes. So the message of the illness is that you really should allow yourself to rest and take time for yourself. And I also recommend this for an optimal effect of the hypnotic changes.

Fever after hypnosis

A rare but impressive phenomenon in connection with hypnosis is a fever-like feeling after the end of the session. This can be caused by the body’s reaction to the new state of relaxation and the changes that occurred during the trance. Your temperature may rise slightly, making you feel hot and sweaty or even shivering.

This is usually no cause for alarm and passes quickly. Sometimes it is also a request from the unconscious to look after yourself, as if you were sick. This should by no means be ignored or fought with medication; rather, you should follow the request as best as possible and withdraw a little.

To ensure your body feels comfortable during and after the hypnosis session, you should drink plenty of water beforehand and wear light clothing so you don’t overheat. Adequate hydration can also help reduce feelings of nausea that sometimes accompany hypnotic trance states.

TIP: Go with the flow of the physical sensations after hypnosis. This is often unconscious communication and meant positively.

How do you feel after hypnosis?

After a hypnosis session, you usually feel relaxed, peaceful, and light. That’s because the trance state has put your body and mind into deep relaxation. Many people also report a feeling of clarity and focus, as if they had gained new insights and realizations.

Besides these physical and mental effects, it is also normal for you to experience emotional reactions. Perhaps you feel more connected to yourself or to other people, or you feel like you are more in tune with your intuition. The emotional changes that occur during hypnosis can be profound, evoking feelings of openness, letting go, peace, and even joy.

Remember, however, that everyone reacts differently to hypnosis sessions - so don’t be afraid if your experience differs from what you expected or what other people have reported. Just listen to your body and pay attention to how it feels afterwards; if you need a little more rest, then take as much time as necessary before returning to your usual routine.

TIP: Take some time for yourself after each session by doing something calming, e.g., taking a walk in nature or taking time just to be with yourself. This can help alleviate any states of exhaustion and improve the positive effects of the session.

What should be considered after hypnosis?

After a hypnosis session, it is important that you take the time and space to let the experience take effect. Feel as much as possible, and think and judge as little as possible while doing so. Wanting to consciously understand what is happening inside can sometimes reduce the effect.

It is also important to pay attention to possible side effects that can occur after hypnosis. You may feel disoriented or dizzy for a short time, or some of the emotional reactions may last longer than expected. In this case, try not to be too hard on yourself, and allow yourself to process the feelings naturally.

Furthermore, you should keep in mind that many of the effects of hypnosis are not noticeable immediately after the session, but only after some time. That means that while you won’t necessarily see changes right away, they are probably happening in the background while you continue your everyday life. It is important that you remain open and attentive so that you can recognize them when they occur.

In summary, reflection after hypnosis and self-awareness are essential components for the long-term success of hypnotherapy sessions. Pay attention to possible side effects and remember that long-term changes take time - but don’t forget to be thankful for small steps of progress too!

Conclusion

In summary, hypnosis can have short- and long-term effects on the mind and body. It is important to know that these effects can vary depending on the person. In general, it is safe to put yourself into a hypnotic state. However, hypnosis should always be carried out under the guidance of a qualified hypnotherapist who can assess the needs of the individual and determine what the overall course of therapy is and what level of intensity is appropriate.

Hypnosis usually does not cause any side effects, although some people may initially experience a certain kind of shutting down that is sometimes not entirely pleasant. Whether migraines, elevated temperature, or even confusing dreams, it can usually be understood as a sign that you should pay attention to.

Overall, the symptoms after hypnosis should last a maximum of about 5 days. If you have longer-lasting complaints, you should get in touch with an experienced hypnotherapist, e.g., with me. I can be reached from anywhere via online hypnotherapy.
